Who we are
Reports and indicators
Our social responsibility activities characterise our attitude towards the stakeholders of the Company’s operations: shareholders, employees, employee representatives, society and the environment, as well as demonstrate our willingness to voluntarily carry out activities aimed at improving the welfare of society and the environment. We primarily implement corporate social responsibility activities in the following focus areas:
Sadales tīkls AS operates in the interests of the population of Latvia, providing the population of the country with electricity, and considers and plans the investments of its resources for the benefit of society within the framework of corporate social responsibility measures. When planning social responsibility activities, we take care that the implemented activities contribute to the sustainable development of the Company, increasing customer satisfaction and loyalty; employee motivation and productivity; improving cooperation with the population and public institutions, as well as increasing the visibility of the Company and services.
We are among the ten largest companies in the Top 500 largest Latvian companies compiled by Dienas Bizness and Lursoft IT in 2016. Sadales tīkls AS has been recognised as one of the most valuable companies in Latvia, which makes investments in a purposeful and thoughtful way in order to ensure high-quality and uninterrupted power supply to customers in the long run. Sadales tīkls AS has also been recognised as the second largest state-owned company and EBITDA maker and the second most valuable company with the largest long-term investments. Meanwhile, together with Latvenergo AS and Latvijas Gāze AS, Sadales tīkls AS continues to maintain the status of the largest energy company in Latvia.
We have received one of the highest assessments, the Gold Category in the Sustainability Index for the Company’s corporate governance, openness of information and social responsibility.
The Institute for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility and the Ministry of Welfare have appreciated our concern and responsibility for employees, customers and their families, awarding us the status of a Family-Friendly Company.
Raising public awareness of electrical safety is our mission that we started in 2013. Therefore, we put forward the education of the society in safe and efficient use of electricity in everyday life and work and the role of electricity in the future as the main task.
We organise and support information and education programmes and campaigns for children, youth and adults, aimed at reducing the number of electrical injuries that occur due to insufficient knowledge when using electrical appliances and carelessly carrying out economic operations close to the electricity network. Our employees – electrical safety messengers – visit schools, take part in safety events and exhibitions and organise educational campaigns to remind both adults and children of electrical safety regulations on a yearly basis. The Company’s employees are always ready to provide advice and assistance in events and activities dedicated to public electrical safety issues. In total, more than 100 thousand children and young people have been trained in electrical safety.
Energy is the cornerstone of the national economy, and, as a responsible company, we provide more than 100 students with internship opportunities throughout Latvia every year. As the occupations related to the core activities of the Company include an electrical engineer, a foreman, an electrician and an electrical fitter, our priority are students pursing their studies in electrical science, and the most knowledgeable trainees have the opportunity to get paid internship. To draw pupils’ attention to the energy sector, we take part in the professional skills competition Young Professional, the Shadow Day event organised by Junior Achievement – Young Enterprise Latvia, the Open Doors Days and the Career Week on a yearly basis.
Our employees are people of different generations, and we organise and participate in sporting events and activities every year in addition to putting a healthy diet and lifestyle into practice in our employees’ daily life. Every year we are one of the biggest teams in Lattelecom Riga Marathon, the Unity Ride and other sporting events.
The jury recognised our project Establishment of a Pool of Experts as the winner among more than 20 competing companies in the nomination Employees’ Initiative and Responsibility within the employers’ image contest Excellent Employer’s DNA in 2014. Pools of experts are groups of employees established within the Company that explore, evaluate and prepare proposals and make recommendatory decisions on the technical development of the distribution system electricity network. In 2015, we received the choice award of the Association Labie darbi (Good Deeds) for educating the young generation in electrical safety and the Corporate Social Responsibility project Stay Clear: DON’T LOSE Games with Electricity!.
We care about every person’s health and life, and we have been cooperating with the State Blood Donor Centre since 2015 so that our employees can donate blood at their workplace. During this time, blood has been donated by 431 employees of the Company who donated 1,577 times in total. We are happy if this has improved a person’s health or saved a person’s life.
In everyday work, we pay great attention to the safety of our employees, so in 2017, when participating in the competition for occupational health and safety films of the Institute for Occupational Safety and Environmental Health, an agency of Riga Stradins University, we created a special film Dzīvo vesels! (Live a Healthy Life!) on the safety of employees when working with chemicals or mixtures. The film received the highest recognition and the opportunity to demonstrate it to the general public. In 2018, we created the film Izvēlies - drošību, veselību, dzīvību! (Choose Safety, Health, Life!), which tells the viewer about occupational health and safety when working with chemicals.
The electricity network crosses the whole territory of Latvia, so we are responsible for the environment in which we work. Our goal is to create and maintain a smart and environmentally safe power grid. We continually improve our performance, rationally use our resources, and efficiently operate our equipment to minimise the negative impact on the environment and increase the efficiency of our operations. The quality and responsible management process of the Company is supported by world standard certificates. We take care that our electricity network is safe not only for people, but also for white storks, so every year we install metal bases for the nests on the overhead power lines and remove dangerous nests outside the nesting period. We pay attention to energy efficiency, informing our employees about the possibilities to save resources, and every year we identify the most environmentally friendly facility of the Company that efficiently uses resources, complies with the requirements of environmental protection regulations and maintains a clean working environment and the surroundings.
For the second consecutive year, Latvenergo Group and Sadales tīkls have won the highest assessments in the contest for the annual award of the insurance company BALTA: The Safest Company Car Fleet 2018. Latvenergo Group, including Sadales tīkls AS, has been awarded the Gold Category in the nomination The Lower Risk Fleets for the light-duty vehicle fleet management policy, while Sadales tīkls AS has received the Silver Category in the nomination Local (Baltic) Freight Carriers and Special Purpose Fleet for the special vehicle fleet management policy, which confirms that the Company’s light-duty vehicle fleet and special vehicle fleet are one of the safest and most efficient in Latvia.
For more than 20 years, we have been meeting with the leading employees and experts of the distribution system operators in Lithuania and Estonia to discuss development trends and current affairs in the sector, and share experiences in introducing new technologies and solutions in the electricity network.
We are a member of social movement “Latvija strādā” (Latvia works). The social movement is an initiative started by Tele2, which invites Latvian employers to become actively involved in the promotion of remigration. The long-term goal of the movement is to return at least 1,000 employees to Latvia from more than 170,000 Latvian nationals currently working or studying abroad. This year, we are committed to returning at least 1 person who has left Latvia.
