Restrictions on properties crossed by a power line

If your property is crossed by a power line, it should be kept in mind that any reckless actions in its vicinity may pose a threat to the property or even life. In order to avoid possible risks (accidents or injuries), there are a number of restrictions established in regard to power line protection zones and routes to be observed by landowners if the property is crossed by a power line.

Please read the information on the restrictions established in regard to power line protection zones and routes:

  • it is prohibited to grow trees and bushes in the areas of the forest land which are specified in the methodology for the determination of protection zones and in the areas outside the forest land across the entire width of the protection zone. The owner or the legal possessor may grow trees and bushes in the protection zone outside the forest land, provided that a written agreement thereof has been signed with Sadales tīkls;
  • it is prohibited to drive vehicles and machinery as well as to work with agricultural machinery higher that 4.5 metres from the surface of the road (ground);
  • it is prohibited to block up service roads and accesses to the facilities of the electrical network;
  • it is prohibited to build, to perform capital repairs, to renovate or to demolish any buildings and structures without the permission of the owner of the relevant utilities;
  • it is prohibited to arrange sports grounds, playgrounds, stadiums, markets, public transport stops and parking places for vehicles and machinery as well as to hold any events which involve gathering of people.

Information on all prohibitions in power line protection zones and routes as well as in regard to the widths of the protection zones and routes where the restrictions are in force is available here: Protection Zone Law  (available in Latvian).
