A smart electricity meter is a device for measuring electricity consumption that provides information on the hourly electricity consumption at the object and makes possible its servicing without having to be present at the object.
The plan for the implementation of smart electricity meters provides for the replacement of all electricity meters with smart meters across Latvia by 2022. Moreover, if the replacement of the electricity meter at your object with a smart meter is scheduled this year, information on it is available on the customer portal e-st.lv. After logging in, select the section Object information and click on Technical information under the relevant object.
Replacement of meters is carried out according to a scheduled plan (it is set for one year), which provides for the replacement of all electricity meters with smart meters across Latvia by 2022. The technology for the installation of smart electricity meters requires that they are replaced within a transformer substation. This means that the technology does not ensure that they can be installed at individual customer objects (see the diagram below).
You can choose a service with a variable electricity price based on changes on the exchange, because in the period when the smart electricity meter is not installed, the distribution of electricity consumed per day according to the standard graph is applied. Look it up here (available in Latvian)!
The smart electricity meter will start metering of electricity from the time it is installed or replaced. We will inform you additionally when remote meter readings become available and the advantages are available. You will receive this information from Sadales tīkls or your electricity trader by text message (SMS), e-mail or post.
The installation of a smart electricity meter is free of charge.
In order to provide billing information, hourly consumption data and monthly electricity meter readings are taken from smart electricity meters. Information on e-st.lv and/or your electricity trader’s portal is displayed in an easy-to-understand graph. This way you can analyse your electricity usage habits.
Sadales tīkls receives electricity meter readings automatically and forwards them to your electricity trader. The calendar month is concluded at 00:00 hrs on the 1st day of each month and the meter reading is recorded at this time. .
Ensuring remote meter readings is a time-consuming process which can take from 1 month to a year. Both households and business customers are notified on an individual basis about the advantages.
If your meter data is not read remotely, we are already informed and working on the solution. In such cases, we cannot name certain deadlines for the solution. As soon as the remote readout is restored, the next invoice will reflect the recalculation for the previous month.
The hourly consumption distribution graph is the customer’s monthly consumption distributed by hour. We provide it to customers with a smart electricity meter which ensures remote meter readings.
The electricity trader applies it for users’ addresses where an exchange or a dynamic product has been selected for electricity settlements and Sadales tīkls cannot yet obtain the user’s actual hourly consumption graph (there is no smart meter installed at the address or it does not provide for remote reading of the data).
Two types of graphs are used:
It is a calculated graph for a user whose meter does not provide for remote reading of data. Taking into consideration that only the total monthly consumption of the user is known, while the distribution by hour is not known, the standard load distribution graph is applied to distribute the monthly consumption by hour.
It is applied for users whose meters do not provide for remote reading of data, for example, in order to have the opportunity to use the electricity exchange services, etc.
If there is a smart electricity meter installed at your place, but you have not yet been informed about the advantages coming into effect, continue to submit the readings of the installed meter as usual. After receiving information about the advantages, you will not have to submit readings anymore. Detailed information about the meter readings submitting through the customer portal e-st.lv is available here.
You must pay for the electricity consumed in accordance with the bill issued by the electricity trader.
The electricity meter is installed by Sadales tīkls and is the property of Sadales tīkls.
The smart electricity meter systems are protected with multi-level access modes; moreover, encryption methods are used at all levels, which guarantees the impossibility to adjust the meter readings. Unique identifiers are used in the exchange of data, thus eliminating any possibility to identify the name, surname or address of a particular customer in the data exchange process.
It is not possible to interfere with the operation of the smart meter or change the readings. A smart meter is on the list of devices subject to state metrological control and is therefore subject to strict requirements, testing and metrological control.
The cost of electricity for the electricity meter’s own consumption (such as a diode lamp, display light if any, etc.) is included in the technological costs of Sadales tīkls and is not counted towards the consumption by your meter.
The smart meters installed by Sadales tīkls meet all requirements of the European Union standards. This is confirmed by the CE marking, which proves compliance with all environmental safety requirements. The electricity meter does not endanger health or life if used for its intended purpose
Smart meters are certified in accordance with the requirements of Measuring Instruments Directive 2014/32/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council (available in Latvian).
All electricity meters record the actual electricity consumption of the object. Unlike electricity meters of previous generations, a smart meter provides detailed information on electricity consumption.
